What DId You Miss Wednesday?

--Add Brandon Bridge's name to the list of people who think Duron Carter would be served at his natural receiver position instead of defensive back. |I would love to have Duron on offense," Bridge said. "I would love to have him on offense. He'd have the same impact he had last year. A thousand yards. Attention of defenses and defensive coordinators. They'd probably be scared of him. He's definitely a playmaker for our offense. He helps out other guys too if he has all that attention."  The Riders and Ti-Cats meet Thursday at 7 on 620 CKRM.

--The C-F-L is out with its players of the month. Quarterback Mike Reilly and wide receiver D'Haquille (Duke) Williams of the Edmonton Eskimos are being honoured. The other nod goes to Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.

--An extra women's curling team has been added to the field for the Home Hardware Canada Cup in December. Headlined by world champions Brad Gushue and Rachel Homan, as well as 2014 Olympic champion Jennifer Jones, the $140,000 event Dec. 5-9 in Estevan, will feature seven men's teams and eight women's teams.  They're invited based on ranking and there was a virtual three-way tie for two women's berths, according to Curling Canada's release Wednesday.

Edmonton's Laura Crocker, Calgary's Chelsea Carey, Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge, Alta., Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., and Winnipeg's Darcy Robertson will be in the women's field.

The six men's teams qualified so far are Gushue from St. John's, N.L., Edmonton's Brendan Bottcher, 2014 Olympic champion Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Calgary's Kevin Koe, Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers and Toronto's John Epping.

--The Dallas Stars seem to have emerged as favourites in the Erik Karlsson sweepstakes.  The stumbling block right now may be what the Stars want to part with. Ottawa is said to want 3rd overall pick last year Miro Heiskanen in the package while Dallas is offering up 2014 first round draft choice Julian Honka.

--UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway’s return to the octagon has been postponed again.
Holloway (19-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) has been hospitalized with concussion-like symptoms and won’t compete against Brian Ortega in Saturday’s UFC 226 co-main event. The situation continues a brutal 2018 campaign for Holloway. He was forced to withdraw from UFC 222 in March due to injury. He then took a short-notice lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 in April but was pulled by the New York commission on weigh-in day due to medical concerns. Now, Holloway won’t be able to fight at UFC 226, either, and his future is uncertain
