Girls Just Want To Have Fun!

Please tell me the post-game celebration by the Canadian womens hockey team is not going to erupt into a major story about how "bad" we are.
A story has surfaced today in which Hockey Canada has apologized for the impromptu post-game celebration that occurred in which members of the gold medal winning team were seen at center ice with their medals around their necks drinking and smoking cigars. This happened once everyone had cleared out of the rink. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this!

OK, there is one thing wrong with it with that being one member of the team isn't legal to drink in B-C, but do you think that even crossed the mind of those taking part. How many times do we see teams celebrating in their dressing room after winning a championship? How many times do we see those celebrations involve drinking and smoking. They didn't do this in front of a sold-out crowd. They did it as everyone had spilled onto the streets to celebrate the win.

If the Canadian women wanted to soak up every last minute they could about winning the gold medal on home ice and they took their victory party back to the rink then good for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I would expect the men to do the same thing Sunday if they are victorious.

What makes this funny is no one knew about it until a reporter from the Associated Press made it his business by speaking with someone from the International Olympic Commission. This reporter was an American. There wouldn't have been a case of sour grapes here would there. Then again, if the U-S had done this, one wonders how Canadians might have reacted.

As I say, I have no problem with it. It was just a case of girls who want to have fun. End of story!

Apologizing for celebrating is just ludicrous! Everyone had gone home. Let them have their moment!

What a classless, trashy way for the Canadian women’s hockey team to act! I can understand being excited to have won the gold medal, but they crossed the line and were TOO exuberant. The team totally embarrassed itself after playing a great game against the United States and an outstanding tournament overall.

If that was my daughter out on the ice doing that, I'll tell you one thing. I'd be one proud daddy! Nothing wrong with that celebration at all. I can see some getting angry if they do it when everyone is still kicking around the rink, but to have it spill back outside the dressing room after everyone had vacated is fine with me.

If the US had done this, everyone in the US would be saying how great it was. Nothing wrong with this whatsoever. Who says you have to celebrate in the cramped quarters of your dressing room.

These girls should have gone back into their dressing room. Politely get dressed, put their medal in their bag, get on the bus and go back to the Olympic village for a good night's sleep. That's what a good Olympian would do. (I HOPE YOU ARE RECOGNIZING THE SARCASM HERE!)

I'm a little disappointed to see this. Have your celebration in private, but don't risk anything like this by doing it in public.

Doing it when they get their medals is one thing. Doing it after everyone had gone home is a different story altogether. No problem with this at all. No apology needed.

Cigars and alcohol? Unless Bill Clinton's involved, it's nobody's business but their own.

Pass me a cigar. What a joke the american media is.

I'm guessing Martin and Bernard won't be celebrating with a beer or two if they should win gold this weekend. This is a non-story as far as I'm concerned. CTV hasn't even touched it today even though the story is online. I'm guessing NBC will be all over it tonight.

Who forgot to go to the LBS to get the liquor permit? It would have only taken a few minutes, LOL!

The crybaby newsreporter must have been the same one who had the score of the Canada-US game broadcast at the Phoenix Suns homegame. How low...embarrassing their OWN player (Steve Nash)

If the men do this there is no story. End of story!

My above post is dripping with sarcasm when I say Martin and Bernard won't be celebrating with a cold one or two. Just had to clarify that in case someone took it the wrong way,

Given that things you eat and drink tend to taste like what ever you are smelling and based on the prevailing scent common in hockey dressing rooms who can blame them for moving out where the air is better. Probably explains the cigars too.....trying to get that hockey bag taste out of their throuts.

Not really the media taking shots - has anyone read the articles? Mostly just the IOC saying it was out of line as well as article commentators.

They probably shouldn't have done it in public - even if they thoughtthey were alone.
