The Riders are off to Edmonton and their first of two pre-season games. They will take on the Eskimos tomorrow night in a game you can hear on "Saskatchewan's Sports Leader" 620 CKRM with Rod Pedersen and Carm Carteri starting at 7.
It was a pretty quiet day around Mosaic Stadium. However, it was a thrilling day for a group of young boys and girls who were touring the facility. They got a chance to see their football heroes go through a very light workout(hey who's kidding who--they practiced the kneel-down today.) and then get some autographs. Several players including Luca Congi, Chris Szarka and Seante Williams made their way through the kids and some came down to get their picture taken with coach Ken Miller.
Speaking of the coach, he was asked today what he expects to see from his quarterbacks tomorrow night and every game. His response "I want to see three things when I evaluate the quarterback. They must be able to operate the offence, make good decisions and make good plays. Those are the three things in that order that I expect." Nothing flashy, nothing out of the ordinary, just get the job done. How can you disagree with that method of thinking. He doesn't want his guy scrambling around trying to improvise, he just wants them to be smart and get the ball to the playmakers. I like it.
I also saw something today that I hope to see at some point this season. I don't want to get into what it was because it would be giving away company secrets, but I am going to be looking for this thing to happen after talking about it with the coach.
One player that won't make the trip is linebacker Sam Olajubutu. He has a calf problem.
