Random Thoughts

It only took two hours to sell out the Labour Day Classic. Did the Banjo Bowl sell out too?? Does this mean we will see less of a Bomber invasion on that first Sunday in September. Its always fun leaving the stadium watching those wearing blue hanging their heads.

"I'm A Celebrity, Get me Out of Here" may be the worst piece of crap to ever hit a TV screen. Not even the presence of former WWE diva Torrie Wilson can save this "schlock". What's sad is NBC didn't want to alter their schedule any which is why Versus gets Game 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Versus was originally to have the first two games but NBC took them when the series was moved up. Seriously, you would rather have this show than air hockey. The network was also afraid that an overtime game could hurt one of the first Conan O'Brien "Tonight Show" episodes.

I watched NBC's broadcast of the Stanley Cup Sunday because I like the style of Mike Emrick. I didn't realize until seeing highlights of Game 2 that Jim Hughson was doing the call on HNIC. I guess that means Bob Cole is getting ready to be put out to pasture. How many years has Cole done the Stanley Cup finals on HNIC??? His best days are far behind him, but it will be strange not listening to him tomorrow. Some out there haven't heard anyone else but Cole when it comes to broadcasting the Cup final.

I'm still trying to wrap my head over the developments in Moose Jaw this week. Chad Lang did a tremendous job as GM of the Warriors. He helped build the team that got to the WHL final--which is something no Saskatchewan team had done for quite a while. Warriors prez Darin Chow is praising Lang upon his dismissal saying he always handled himself with class and professionalism. He has left the club in a good financial situation, and his dedication to the club is undeniable. It just makes me wonder then why this move was made. Yes, Jeff Truitt is a good hockey man and he has led a Kelowna team to a Memorial Cup. Lang had his plans to perhaps get his team to a Memorial Cup. I guess we will never know if those plans could have come to fruition. Its a strange move, but its not the first strange move that has been made in Moose Jaw over its 25 year history.

Many Rider fans are excited about the 2009 season, but many also feel as if this team won't come close to winning 12 games again and compete for a Grey Cup. In fact, one fan told me he can't wait to see Dalton Bell do his thing this year. If Dalton Bell is doing his thing this year, it means the team won't be doing that well right? Perhaps I'm looking at it through green-coloured glasses but if this team could get 12 wins with the lineup it had to field because of injury last year, there is no reason why they shouldn't win 12 this year. I guess it all depends on what type of defence Gary Etcheverry brings to the table.

Nothing against the outstanding Rider coverage that the Leader-Post brings on a day to day basis, but I miss reading Darrell Davis' stories. Rob, Ian, Murray and the rest of the crew are great but when football season hits, you could always count on some great reads courtesy Darrell.

I'm guessing it won't be long until the first NFL preview magazines start hitting the store shelves. Lindy's and Pro Football Weekly are the two that I usually buy.

I can't see the Canadiens being successful under Jacques Martin. I wonder if they approached Jacques Lemaire. After all, the Habs like to stay within their own family. I also wonder if Patrick Roy was approached.
----
There are many reasons why Detroit has taken a 2-0 lead over Pittsburgh, but one of them is the fact that Chris Osgood is simply a better goalie than Marc-Andre Fleury. Out of the six goals Fleury allowed in the first two games, at least three were greasy in variety.

Have I ever rubbed another man's rhubarb??? Has another man ever rubbed mine??? Do I really want to know???

Lebron James showed he has some growing up to do on the weekend. The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar and the face of the NBA did not shake hands with the Orlando Magic after their elimination nor did he answer any questions after the game. Instead, he sprinted into the dressing room and got out of there a-s-a-p. Yes, I can understand the frustration, but you can't run and hide when all doesn't go well. Don't take your ball and go home Lebron.

If you watch the NBA finals on ABC this week, take a look at play-by-play guy Mike Breen. I swear he is just an older version of Wray Morrison.

On May 10, the Yankees were a game under 500 and five and a half back of division leading Toronto. Everyone wanted manager Joe Girardi's head on a platter. Fast forward to now and the Yankees are 30-21 and one game ahead of Boston in the division. Where are the Girardi-haters now??? Its amazing what happens when your best player (Alex Rodriguez) gets back in the lineup isn't it!

I'm trying to lay off soft drinks this summer or at least cut back tremendously. Its going to be a long summer!!!!
