Regina Pats General Manager, Chad Lang announced today that they have released Head Coach Curtis Hunt of his duties and will not renew the contract of Director of Scouting Todd Ripplinger for the 2011-12 season.
“These decisions are always tough to make, especially when you are deal with two quality people like Curtis and Todd, however after a lengthy evaluation process we felt strongly that it was the right time to make a change." Regina Pats General Manager Chad Lang continues, "We need to go in a new direction with a fresh approach and philosophy as it relates to our head coach and the head scout positions. The entire Pats organization would like to thank Curtis and Todd for their hard work and service to this franchise and wish them all the best in the future.”
Curtis finished his sixth season as Head Coach of the Regina Pats with a combined record of 185-201-46 leading the Pats to a division title in 2007-08.
Todd took over the role as Director of Scouting prior to the 1997-98 season and over 13 seasons he drafted the likes of Josh Harding, Logan Pyett, Jordan Eberle and Jordan Weal.
No arguments here, but its a bit late is it not?
Mark it right here. Cory Clouston will be the new head coach of the Pats. The announcement will come Monday or Tuesday once they clean the horseshit out of the Brandt Centre.
This makes me feel a little better after the Canucks loss last night. Not much, but a little.
Ripplinger brought in talent and parker traded it away. Losing him is a mistake.
Everyone wanted Brent to pull the trigger and fire Hunt and that is what he has done. Where's the "thank you Brent" comments.
Shouldn't this have happened about four months ago?
Technically the Pats didn't fire Ripplinger -- his contact expires at the end of June and they've decided not to offer him a new contract.
I could see Clouston coming here, but I'm guessing he is looking for an NHL assistant job.
The same could be said for this guy and it looks like he might be Winnipeg's guy, but how about Craig McTavish.
Trent Cassan has been a winner in his year and a half in Yorkton. He knows how to coach a group of young guys and he knows how to win. Lang went with Hunchak in Moose Jaw and it worked. I'm guessing he tries to repeat the formula.
The pats would never bring Trent Cassan in. If anything how about a Jamie Fiesel or a Dean brockman who have lots of experience with teams and have been through the building process and came out wiht very sucessfull teams.
