What Did You Miss Thursday?

--The Erik Karlsson sweepstakes are over while the dismantling of the Ottawa Senators continues.  Karlsson is now a San Jose Shark.  Ottawa sent him to San Jose for a first-round pick in 2019 or 2020, a second-round pick in 2019, forwards Chris Tierney, Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo and two conditional draft picks. The Sharks also get forward Francis Perron.  Ottawa also gets a second-round pick in 2021 if Karlsson re-signs with the Sharks. That pick becomes a first if the Sharks make the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. The Senators also will receive a first-rounder in 2021 or 2022 if Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster this season.

--The Dallas Stars wrapped up another star for the long term, signing center Tyler Seguin to an eight-year extension with an average annual value of $9.85 million. The 26-year-old had a career-high 40 goals to go with 38 assists last season. The five-time All-Star has finished in the top 10 in goals four times in his career.

--The Pats lost 3-2 in Saskatoon in pre-season play.  Regina finishes the pre-season at home vs Prince Albert Friday. 

--Andy Dalton hooked up with AJ Green for three touchdowns as Cincinnati beat Baltimore in the NFL Thursday night game.  The Bengals are 2-0 while the Ravens are 1-1.

-- A healthy Johnny Manziel is wondering why he’s not starting for the Montreal Alouettes. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback returned to practice on Thursday asking out loud if the club had lost faith in him. The 25-year-old said he had been healthy and available to play for the previous two weeks, fully recovered from the concussion he suffered in just his second start for the Als — a 24-17 loss to Ottawa on Aug. 11. With Manziel on the bench, Antonio Pipkin guided the team to a pair of wins. 

--The National Lacrosse League is coming to Halifax. The NLL announced Thursday that the Rochester Knighthawks will be relocating to Halifax, becoming the league’s fifth Canadian franchise.

Curt Styres, the NLL’s 2017-18 general manager of the year and owner of the Knighthawks, applied to relocate his team and received approval from the league’s board of governors.
