U SPORTS has notified the University of Regina of its decision on a procedural matter relating to the forfeiture of Rams Football team conference games this season.
Following the disclosure of an ineligible player that resulted in the forfeitures, the University submitted documents to seek relief from U SPORTS eligibility regulations pursuant to U SPORTS POLICY 40.20.
Upon review, the student-athlete’s eligibility for future games was instated, however, U SPORTS has confirmed a binding decision that the forfeitures stand. The University continues to fully comply with U SPORTS and would like to thank U SPORTS for its consideration of the matter.
The University’s internal review on its current student-athlete intake processes is underway; recommendations from this review will inform decisions regarding future processes.
The University has also directed Lisa Robertson, Director of Sport, Community Engagement, and Athlete Development, to initiate discussions with external colleagues with respect to the appropriateness of future penalties.
