Kent Austin Is Back
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats officially announced the hiring of Kent Austin as the club’s new General Manager and Head Coach.
Austin, who left the Canadian Football League following the 2007 season to pursue a coaching opportunity at the University of Mississippi, returns after leading the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a Grey Cup in his first and only season as a head coach.
He was most recently the head coach at Cornell University.
Last week, the Tiger-Cats made headlines after relieving George Cortez of his head coaching duties after one season and transitioning former General Manager Bob O’Billovich into a consulting role.
Austin, who is now one of only two in the league to take on the dual role of General Manager and Head Coach, started his coaching career in 2003 as the quarterbacks coach with the Ottawa Renegades following a stellar 8-year CFL career as a quarterback.
Austin joined the Toronto Argonauts coaching staff in 2004 as an offensive coordinator, helping lead them to a Grey Cup that season and a first place finish the following year before being let go in the middle of the 2006 season.
In 2007, he joined the Riders, winning the CFL Coach of the Year following the Grey Cup win.
As a player, Austin passed for over 36,000 yards and one two Grey Cups – one with Saskatchewan (1989) and one with BC (1994).

Lets see if the Magic is still there .
How are Rider fans going to react when Kent is holding the GC again at Mosaic Stadium?
The first anon must be a fan of a different team or just someone looking to stir things up. Other then that it's good fo Kent. He tried out his hand at the college level and now feels it's time to move into a new job that he feels fits his situation. As a Rider season ticket holder I wish him good luck. And to think he will win the Grey Cup next year is nothing but speculation. Frankenstein
3 jobs since he left which I for one have no issue with. He turned the same deal down last year from the Riders which tells you all you need to know. However for the RiderNation bent out of shape over this let me set the scene for you using Caddy Shack analogy:
Scene;
Bushwood Country Club lounge roome. Judge Elehue Smails tries to convince Ty Webb not to give in to easily regarding playing match golf with Al Chervik.
Judge Smails/Rider Nation: "Ty/Kent your father an I we prepped together we went to war together we played golf together. We built this club Ty. Lets face it, some people just don't belong. Try not to give in to easily."
Ty Webb/Kent Austin:
"Let's make it $40,000....Judge....my Dad....never liked you."
That right there sums up the Kent Austin/Rider Nation relationship over the past 25 years.
When he wins the Grey Cup or at the very least has Hamilton in that game next November. Wow is all that will be said.

Who cares! We have our guy and I like our team a lot better than what he inherits. An aging quarterback, a pouty slotback and a terrible defense. Have fun with that Kent!
