It might be the cheeziest hockey movie ever made, but Patrick Swayze was one of the stars of "Youngblood". I know you've all seen that movie---and don't deny it. Swayze was Derek Sutton--the captain of the Hamilton Mustangs. Thankfully for Swayze, he will be remembered for much better roles than that of Sutton.
The NFL's biggest star is shining brightly again. Tom Brady returned to the Patriots after missing all of last year with his knee injury. He didn't look good for three quarters, but he picked it up in the 4th throwing 2 TD passes as New England beat Buffalo 25-24. Say what you will about this one, but the Patriots were lucky as Buffalo had control of the football game and would have likely won had they not fumbled a kickoff with two minutes to play. The other game last nite saw the Raiders and Chargers meet in what was a decent football game with the Bolts winning 24-20. It capped off a pretty exciting first week of the NFL season--8 games went to the final seconds before being decided. You can't really ask for more than that can you?
So the Kraft Hockeyville Contest is a CBC-Hockey Night in Canada event, so someone please tell me why the Islanders-Canucks Hockeyville game which went last night was on the NHL network. Should it not have been a special HNIC broadcast?
If TSN is going to show us pre-season hockey, I would think then that TSN can show us pre-season CFL football.
The Jays terrible season has meant outfielder Adam Lind has put together a very good season in very quiet fashion. Lind is hitting just under 300 after cracking his 29th homer in a loss to Detroit last nite. That homer also provided Lind with his 100th RBI. Aaron Hill will also go over 100 sometime this week as he sits at 98. It just makes you wonder if Toronto could have done something had it not been for injuries in the starting rotation(Marcum, McGowan, etc, etc.) and some production from Vernon Wells and the now departed Alex Rios.
Brent Parker has done the smart thing. The Pats GM is not going to fool around with his goaltending situation like he did last year. The team parted ways with goalie Linden Rowat on Monday after he had a sub-par pre-season. It means the team is now settled on Damien Ketlo and rookie Dawson Guhle in net with Brett Leffler, Mitch Czibere and Matt Strueby being the team's 20 year olds. Does everything really start anew Friday night. It does as the Pats open the season against the Blades in Saskatoon.
I had never heard of Juan Martin Del Potro until this weekend.
After seeing what I saw Sunday from the Bombers, do they have to basically start from scratch the way the Riders did when Roy Shivers and Danny Barrett were hired? It might be the only way.
If anyone saw Brendan Taman on Monday, how big was his grin. I'm guessing he was absolutely ecstatic over what happened Sunday afternoon. I saw him on the sidelines too. I wonder if he was handing out paper bags.
It might only have been one game, but the Patriots are not the lock everyone thought they were. Their defence has some major question marks.
Why doesn't TSN show CFL pre-season? The audience would be there...especially for a team wearing green!
Brendan would have needed guys like Geno and Jeremy around him, but he should have positioned himself at one of the main exits and just stood there. He must have loved every second of that.
Someone connected with Rowat told me last night he could be on his way to Tri-Cities.
Derek Sutton was not a role I think Patrick wants associated with him, but if its a hockey movie, Canadians will. HA HA. I'll just remember him in Roadhouse and that surfer movie with Keanu Reeves. I can't remember the name of that flick.
Isn't Matt Delahey 20 as well?
The 'Swayze Express' will live on in Patricks honour...and Sebastian Bach will never forget coming down with a case of the 'I'm afraid of Patrick Swayze's'.
