Women’s Basketball (U SPORTS Ranking: No. 3) – The
Cougars open up 2018 at home after a successful first half of the
season that saw them put up an 18-2 overall record against U SPORTS
opposition, a 9-1 Canada West record, and the second-best RPI in the
conference. Regina will host Mount Royal (0-10) this Friday and Saturday
at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport with games scheduled
for 6:00 both nights.
Men’s Basketball – Fresh off a non-conference
tournament in which the Cougars played three NJCAA schools, the team
returns to the Canada West schedule with a pair of conference games
against Mount Royal (5-5). The Cougars head into the second half of
conference play with a 7-3 record and currently hold the second-best RPI
in Canada West. The all-Cougars matchup is set for 8:00 on both Friday
night and Saturday night at the CKHS.
Men’s Hockey – Sticking with this weekend’s Regina
vs. Mount Royal theme, the two Cougars squads will match up in both
genders on the ice as well. The
men’s teams will play in Regina this weekend at The Co-operators Centre
with games set for 7:00 on Friday night and 3:00 for Saturday’s
matinee. This
weekend is a wonderful opportunity for the U of R to climb right back
into the Canada West playoff race – a pair of regulation victories would
pull Regina to within one point of MRU, which currently occupies the
conference’s sixth and final postseason berth.
Women’s Hockey – The Cougars (6-8-1-1) will head
to Calgary this weekend to kick off the second half of the Canada West
schedule with two road games against Mount Royal (3-11-2-0). Regina,
which currently sits in sixth place in the conference standings, will
face off against MRU at 7:00 on Friday night and 3:00 on Saturday
afternoon at the Flames Community Arena.
Women’s Volleyball –
Locked in a four-way tie for the eighth and final Canada West
postseason spot, the Cougars (5-7) return to conference play this
weekend with two critical road matches against Saskatchewan. Regina
will be taking on a Huskies team that’s in seventh place in the Canada
West standings at 6-6 and has won three consecutive conference matches. Match time is set for 6:00 on both Friday night and Saturday night.
Men’s Volleyball – The Cougars went 2-3 at the
Wesmen Classic last week, defeating OUA teams Ryerson and Western on
their way to a sixth-place finish at the non-conference tournament. Regina
(1-11) will now turn its attention back to the Canada West schedule as
the Cougars head up to Saskatoon to play Saskatchewan (3-9) on both
Friday and Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 on both nights.
