Moose Jaw Warriors General Manager Alan Millar has announced the acquisition of 19-year-old defenseman Kale Clague from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for 17-year-old Luka Burzan, 18-year-old Chase Hartje, a 2nd round pick in 2018, a 1st round pick in 2019, and a 1st round pick in 2021.
Clague, 6’0”, 185lbs, is from Lloydminster, Alberta and is in his 4th season in the WHL and is 2nd in WHL scoring among defenseman with 10 goals, 37 assists, and 47 points in 28 games. Clague was drafted 6th overall by Brandon at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and has gone on to play 169 WHL games and has 25 goals, 118 assists, and 143 points.
Clague has also played in 40 WHL Playoff games and has eight goals, 13 assists, and 21 points and was a part of Brandon’s 2016 WHL Championship team and also played in the 2015 WHL Championship. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2nd round, 51st overall, at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Clague recently captured gold with Team Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and had two assists in six games. He was also a member of Canada’s silver medal team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships where he had six assists in seven games.
