Its A Tradition Unlike Any Other!!

There are many signs that spring has arrived but perhaps there is no bigger sign if you are a sports fan than this.

The golf season in my mind officially gets underway today as they tee it up at Augusta for the Masters. The question going in is "Who do you have Tiger Woods or the field??? After Tiger's win at Bay Hill last month, many believe he will be wearing a green jacket Sunday night. I wouldn't doubt that but if you want someone to challenge him, I'm going to go with Steve Stricker. Of course Padraig Harrington is trying to make it three straight majors---of course those last two were without you know who playing.

If you are a golfer, is there any other layout you would want to swing your sticks at than this one? You can have your Pebble Beach and you can have your St. Andrews and you can have your whatever. I would love to have the opportunity to play just one hole at Augusta.

On Wednesday, they had the Par 3 competition. Its a light hearted day in which golfers relax before teeing it up for real. Vijay Singh had what might be the shot of the year on 16.

By the way, Tiger tees off just before noon our time. TSN's coverage starts at 2. 2???? How about 11!!!!
------
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in the playoffs......for the first time ever. Since joining the league in 2000, the Jackets have always been on the outside looking in but they get into the dance this year after beating Chicago Wednesday night. I don't know if Ken Hitchcock would get my vote for coach of the year for getting this team in as I would have to think the Jack Adams trophy would to Chicago's Joel Quenneville or Boston's Claude Julien but he has to get some consideration. They will be tough against either Calgary or Vancouver.
------
The Calgary Hitmen are off to the WHL East final and they will likely play Brandon. The Hitmen completing their second straight sweep in the playoffs as they dismantle Lethbridge 6-0 in Game 4. In their eight wins, they have given up just seven goals. In Brandon, the Wheat Kings beat Medicine Hat 6-1 to take a 3-0 lead there. Out west, Dustin Tokarski stopped 41 shots as Spokane beat Vancouver 2-1 to even that series at two. Kelowna evened its series with Tri-Cities at two with a 4-3 overtime win. Jamie Benn's 6th of the playoffs on the PP almost 13 minutes in was the winner.

One of the great things about baseball season opening is a chance to hear the great Vin Scully. Sportsnet had the game on between the Padres and Dodgers last nite meaning it was another opportunity to hear the dulcet tones of the classy Scully who is 81 years young and still as sharp as a tack. Some guys start to lose it as they get older but not Scully. He is perhaps the best of anyone out there and hearing him describe a ballgame is simply poetry.

Word on the street is the coverboys have been found for Madden 10. If what I am hearing is right, two players will adorn the cover of the highly popular video game. They would be Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamulu and Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. (If this is the case, the box should come with hair protruding from it!!)
------
One last thing. I was listening to the Dan Patrick show yesterday and he had on Ross Tucker from Sports Illustrated. I don't know if Tucker hit his head on something before the show or if he's thinking its the Lions but he is suggesting the Lions should pass on the No. 1 pick. If they don't have a clear-cut top pick, they should just wait. Because every spot they drop, they save a couple of million dollars.Tucker says the Lions probably would never do it because it would be a public relations hit. GEE DO YA THINK!!!! This team is already a disaster and doing something like this would make them even a bigger laughingstock. By the way, I am hearing that even though there are two offensive linemen out there to start the rebuilding effort with that the Lions will take Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first overall selection. I'm still wondering if Seattle will take a quarterback with the number 4 selection. I'm starting to think it might be a good idea but I'm also wondering if it might be a better idea to try and trade out of that slot and make a deal with someone. Then again when I think of QB's that Seattle has taken in the first round before I think of Rick Mirer and Dan McGwire.

(Excuse me while I puke!!!!!)

I'm guessing Denver would like to get up to number 4 to take USC quarterback Mark Sanchez seeing they literally have nothing at that position now. (Apologies to all of you Kyle Orton and Chris Simms fans!!)

Are the driving ranges opening soon?? I would love to pull out the sticks and hit a bucket on the long weekend.

How long did it take for the Stones concert to sell out?? Will AC/DC break that? I'm guessing Yes!!!
