Winnipeg Gets New Stadium/Round 2 WHL Playoff Sked
The debate about building a new stadium in Regina should certainly start heating up again after word today Winnipeg is getting one. David Asper becomes the owner of the Bombers in a move which sees him will put up $100 million, including retail development near the site of the current stadium west of downtown. The federal government is kicking in 15 million and the Manitoba government 20 million. If all goes well, the facility will be ready for the 2011 season. It will seat 30-thousand but have the ability to expand to 45-thousand. The question I have is how can David Asper--executive vice president of CanWest--afford this when his company's stock is worth pennies these days. Good on Winnipeg for getting this done. Will that momentum move into this province. Time will tell!
