What Did You Miss Saturday?

--The Acadie-Bathurst Titan scored twice while shorthanded as they beat Swift Current 4-3 in overtime at the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup. Liam Murphy got the winner early into OT as the Quebec champs join the Pats with 1-0 records. One of those teams will be 2-0 on Sunday night as they will meet one another in a 5 o'clock start.   

   The Broncos were without the services of Tyler Steenbergen for much of the game.  He left with an upper-body injury after getting checked into the side boards in the second period.  His status for Monday's game against Hamilton is not known.

--The Capitals dropped their third straight game and are on the brink of elimination after losing to the Lightning 3-2 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final in Tampa Bay. Cedric Paquette scored in the opening minute and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 28 shots to help the Lightning hold off the Capitals, 3-2. The home team won for the first time in the series.  This afternoon, Vegas looks for a win in Winnipeg to advance to the Stanley Cup as they lead the West final 3-1. 

--Former Pat Adam Brooks scored the winner in the third period and Garret Sparks made 26 saves as the Toronto Marlies pulled out a 4-3 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the opener of their American Hockey League third-round playoff series on Saturday.  Highlights of the game can be seen by clicking here

--Switzerland pulled off a massive upset Saturday at the World Championship, defeating Canada in the semifinals 3-2 to advance to the gold-medal game against Sweden on Sunday.
Swiss goaltender Leonardo Genoni was sensational, making 44 saves and leaving a Canadian squad full of NHL stars shaking their heads as they went to the bench after each failed scoring attempt.  Canada meets the U-S for bronze in a game that starts at 7:45 am this morning.

--Johnny Manziel says signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats is the best opportunity for him.  He says he was tired of waiting and waiting and he wanted to go somewhere where he was wanted and welcomed with open arms.  Manziel admits the CFL experience will be new for him including the rules of the game, but he is looking forward at challenging Jeremiah Masoli for the starter's job.  Two other CFL items on the eve of training camp---Winnipeg signed linebacker Adam Bighill as he returns to the league after a stint in the NFL.  BC signed offensive lineman Jovan Olafioye.
