What Did You Miss Friday?

--Stuart Skinner's second shutout of the series has put the Swift Current Broncos within a game of the WHL Eastern Conference final. Skinner stopped 36 shots as the Broncos beat Moose Jaw 2-0 to take a 3-2 lead in the best of 7. Swift Current has a chance to win the series tonight in a game you can see on Access starting at 7.

The winner of the series will meet Lethbridge in the East final.  The Hurricanes eliminated Brandon with a 3-0 win to take the 2nd round series in 6.

--The Winnipeg Jets are heading to the Twin Cities with a 2-0 lead in their NHL Western Conference quarterfinal..  The Jets beat the Minnesota Wild 4-1 in Game 2 of their series. They outshot Minnesota 44-17.  Elsewhere, Philly rebounded after getting smoked in Game 1 against Pittsburgh as they beat the Penguins 5-1.  Vegas needed double overtime to beat the Kings 2-1. Erik Haula had the winner.

--Nazem Kadri has been suspended three games by the NHL.  It is for the hit he delivered to Boston's Tommy Wingels in Game 1 of their series Thursday night.

--Ken Hitchcock has stepped down as coach of the Dallas Stars. Hitchcock, who led Dallas to its first Stanley Cup championship in 1999, will remain with the organization as a consultant. Hefinishes his career with a record of 823-506-207 in 1,536 career regular-season games coached with Dallas, Philadelphia, Columbus and St. Louis. He stands third all-time in wins and fourth in games coached. He also compiled a playoff record of 86-82 in 168 career Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.

--The SJHL final will start Saturday in Nipawin as the Hawks meet Estevan.  The Bruins went to Nipawin on Friday and en route they stopped off at the site where the Humboldt Broncos bus crash occurred killing 16.  The story on that stop from the Estevan Mercury can be found right here.  Meanwhile in Humboldt, more funerals were held and there was a visit from Jets owner Mark Chipman and Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.  The two presented the Broncos with the jerseys worn by both teams one week ago tonight that had Broncos on the name-bar on the back of the jersey instead of the player's name,

--Gerrit Cole certainly looks comfortable in Houston. The Astros right-hander struck out 14 over seven innings against the rival Texas Rangers on Friday, pitching his way into the record books. With the performance, Cole joined Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan as the only pitchers in Major League Baseball history to strike out 11 or more in each of their first three starts of a season.

--The Raptors pursuit of an NBA championship starts Saturday at 1:30 SK time when they are home to the Washington Wizards.

Scruffy, do you if there is any chance of Access/SHAW having the Tri-Cities/Everett series? Seeing neither of those teams made an appearance in Saskatchewan this year, it would be nice to see what they have.

Jonathan Toews----class act! I am thinking more NHL'ers will likely do this at one time and that an NHL exhibition game could be played in Humboldt next season.

Imagine Connor McDavid skating around EPA!
