--Glenn Gawdin's 5th goal of the playoffs at the 13:37 mark of the second period turned out to be the winner as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Regina Pats 3-2 in Game 7 of their first round WHL Eastern Conference series. The Pats will get 46 days off between now and their first game of the Memorial Cup on May 18.

--The Prince Albert Raiders will meet the Moose Jaw Warriors tonight with the winner playing the Broncos in the 2nd round.  For Moose Jaw forward Tanner Jeannot, he will go in with an NHL contract in his backpocket.  The 20 year old has signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Nashville Predators. The Oxbow product had 80 points in 72 games for the Warriors this season

--Toronto 1B Justin Smoak was named the American League Player of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2018 MLB season. Smoak collected two home runs, seven total hits, eight RBIs and a .467 batting average in the four-game set with the New York Yankees. He connected for both homers in Sunday’s series finale, including the game-winning grand slam.

Solid effort by the Pats, but at the end of the day they didn't have what it takes. One can't argue that SC had Gawdin and Steenbergen rolling right from Game 1. Regina's only gun was Hebig.

SC D is just too good. Sissons, Khaira and Anderson made Steel and Bradley invisible for most of the series and it showed.

Did Regina have a solid scoring chance once they made it 3-2? The Pats were choked out.

Why didn't Oksanen play in Game 7?

Pats took the #4 team in Canada to game 7, but now have about 40 days of practice to get ready for Mem Cup.

I can't argue with Anon 1 assessment. Regina's D wasn't physical enough in this series. SC shut down Steel/Bradley and Regina couldn't do the same with Gawdin/Steenburgen.

Now I think all hockey fans in Regina and SC put their rivalry aside to cheer for Prince Albert tonight. Am I right on that?

Anon 1's thoughts are what I have as well.

People seem to be forgetting the Pats took the #4 team in Canada to 7 games after overhauling their roster. This result doesn't surprise me. I fully expect MJ to win tonight as well because they do have the better team. If they don't win, it will tell you something is wrong there considering what happened last year.

Windsor had a terrible season last year, got their act together at the end of the season, bowed out in the 1st round and used the break to get better and win the MC. I expect Regina to be a different looking squad come May. I don't think anyone beat Sault St. Marie if they get here, but the Pats won't embarrass themselves.
